Consumer Electronics Show Dumps The Sands Expo: Leaves AVN’s Show By Its Lonesome

This year’s AVN Adult Entertainment Expo falls on the same dates as the annual Consumer Electronics Show, but it’s not happening anywhere near it. CES has announced that it will be moving its main showroom operation to the LV Convention Center and the Hilton Hotel, to which it has largely moved in recent years. CES wants to consolidate, and apparently also wants to shed itself of the “looky-loos” who don’t actually do any business at the show.

What will happen to the AVN show’s CES foot traffic? This year that collateral traffic may be confined to those “looky-loos” who are lost and looking for CES in the old halls at the Sands. Even with the change in venue, the AVN show will still bring in thousands of visitors who are in town for CES. To reach those masses, the expo may have to up its in-town advertising, and expand its national media reach. More worrisome for AVN may be the fact that CES last year began restricting attendance of its show, cutting passes to those who don’t represent manufacturers or buyers in the electronics industry. And that could hurt the AVN show - all those looky-loos also like to lookie at loose women.

From the Las Vegas Review Journal:

“It could also take some steam out of the Adult Entertainment Expo, a pornography industry show that had shared the Sands Expo and Convention Center with CES and has drawn significant foot traffic from the gadget convention.”

“Representatives of the adult entertainment show did not respond to a call for comment before deadline.”
